THE STORY BEHIND THE LOGO

“On my journey in Japan the idea of opening my own place got sparked again. Since that day I was always equipped with my little notebook filled with learnings, recipes and ideas. While sitting in the train and thinking about concepts and names that place would run by I heard the name YUNA and wrote it down for the first time ever.

It was a little girls name sitting across from me and asking her mom questions about what she thinks the clouds in the sky look like.

„Okāsan, kumo wa dōiu imidesu ka“

-YUNA-

Almost half a year later on a trip in Okinawa we went to a coffeehouse called Calin Zakka. A paradise in the middle of nowhere surrounded by farm fields and run by 2 women. The atmosphere in that place was something special. Something I knew I wanted to be able to create too. A place filled with a certain energy, energizing but calming at the same time. In there was a little girl running around with a big contagious smile. She was pointing out small items and asked her mom what they were and listened curiously to her. Getting excited about everything she saw and heard about. The name of that girl was YUNA. I picked up the notebook went through the pages and circled the name. I later checked if there is a meaning behind the name.

In Okinawa dialect YUNA means „night“ & „moon“ Back in Berlin I finally had the chance to open my first place. Having a hard time deciding on a name, I went back to my notes and choose the name that seemed destined. I researched the meanings of the moon and chose the waning moon . Which in that time was the most fitting for my families situation at the moment: get rid of old things that hold you back, clear your mindspace for new chapters and goals.
